ORIGINS

“Calming by touch” is how we can translate the characters AN and MO from Japanese and from which the term “AMMA” comes.

AMMA massage appeared in Japan 1,300 years ago and was for a very long time the only massage recognized by the country. It was reserved exclusively for blind people to allow them to have a professional activity and was performed on a table or the floor. Subsequently, some practitioners, who were not blind and therefore did not have the right to practice it, wanted to take advantage of the success of AMMA massage and diverted its name to call it Shiatsu.

More recently, massage has experienced considerable growth thanks to David Palmer (USA). In 1982, his master Takashi Nakamura entrusted him with the mission of directing the Amma Institute of Traditional Japanese Massage , the first American school exclusively dedicated to teaching Amma massage.

It was he who came up with the idea of adopting AMMA massage techniques to create a chair massage. Major Silicon Valley companies, including Apple, were the first to benefit from it.

The success of AMMA massage lies in the fact that this form of massage is perfectly adapted to the needs and constraints of businesses .
